1st Upper Rissington Scout Group
The scout group is part of the wider organisation of the Baden Powell Scout Association, (we joined B-PSA in December 2018). Our group is fully independent of the Scout Association and still follows the way Baden Powell saw scouts being run as laid out in his original writings .
The group is going from strength to strength with more and more joining us every month. Our Beaver section has surpassed all expectations and we now find ourselves having to take the regretful decision to close the section for new applicants and open our first ever waiting list, although the wait shouldn’t be too long as we have Beavers ready to move up to our Wolf Cubsection later in the year.
Our Beavers have been learning about caring for the village and world around us. This term they took part in a litter pick which will become a regular event involving all sections of our Scout Group. They enjoyed
looking at the trees around the Village Hall and studying the different leaves and doing rubbings of the tree trunks and looking at the different types and patterns of the bark.
Our Wolf Cubs have also taken part in a litter pick, choosing the area of the village they wanted to do. Their
conservation and caring for local wildlife has taken up most of the term, with walks to areas of the village they might not have discovered before and looking at the diverse wildlife of quite a compact area.
Our Scout section have been learning about maps and will be working on their flight, first aid and knifework badges in the coming weeks.
We will be attending the Village Fete in July where we will have an information area along with some games to raise some funds for the group.
We have a uniform day trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park the day after the village fete and have a summer camp planned.
If you are interested in your child joining us then please contact us either through our facebook page or website or you can call into the Village Hall on a Friday evening. We offer a four week free taster period to allow your child to see what we do in traditional scouting.
As we are increasing in members we also find ourselves needing to find new officers, if you would like to join us in providing this valuable service to the children of Upper Rissington and surrounding villages please get in contact with us or see us at the Village Hall on a Friday evening. All our officers go through an enhanced DBS check and there are regular training courses available through Baden Powell Scout Association.
